IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

Animal Vets provides its own 24 hour emergency cover, during which 2 veterinary surgeons are always on call. Once our clinics are closed, you can still contact us to receive emergency care for your animals.

It’s becoming increasingly rare for veterinary practices to offer their own out of hours emergency service. Instead clients are asked to travel to an unknown clinic, often many miles away, to see a vet who isn’t familiar with the needs of your pet.

At Animal Vets, you will see the same vets out of hours as you will during the day. We’re dedicated to the needs of your animals 24 hours a day, and we think this makes us different to many other practices out there.

You don’t want the added stress of speaking to a vet from a practice you’ve never visited before and who doesn’t know your animal’s history. Rest assured at Animal Vets, you will see the same vets whether its day or night.

Overnight care at Animal Vets

We’re very proud to offer a 24 hour emergency care service to our valued clients. We do think it’s important that you know that we are not an animal hospital and are not therefore at the clinic 24 hours a day. Our vets also deal with emergencies for farm animals and horses so we may be dealing with urgent cases away from the surgery. The information below explains the care your pet will receive outside of our normal opening hours.

All in-patients are routinely given a thorough examination at 6pm, at the end of the normal opening hours.
If the vet on call is different from the vet in charge of the case, the case details and specifics are handed over.
Each patient has a personalised hospitalisation sheet, detailing the requirements through the night.
All in-patients are routinely checked again at 8pm and 10pm by the vet on call.
Any further checks or treatments required during the night are determined based on the clinical needs of the patient. Your pet will receive the exact level of care required, determined by the assessment of the vet in charge of the case. These additional checks or treatments are clearly displayed on the hospitalisation sheet.
Telephone updates during the night are made where appropriate, but are not routine.
The next working day commences at 8am the following morning.
